Jo Ann (Hilderbrand) Barger

Jo Ann (Hilderbrand) Barger of Conyers, GA passed away peacefully with her family by her side on January 7, 2026, at the age of 90.  Jo was born to Edgar Ivan and Eva Love Hilderbrand on September 23, 1935, and was the eighth of nine children. She was raised in Atlanta’s Cascade Heights neighborhood and graduated from Bass High School. 

Jo is survived by her husband of 72 years, Gerald Barger, her son Gerry Barger, and her daughter Tamra Barger-Heard. She adored her grandchildren Daniel Heard and Emily Heard-West as well as her great grandson John West Heard. 

Jo was a homemaker at heart. She took pride in managing the home responsibilities and more importantly raising her family. She was always involved in the extextracurricular activities and sports that her children participated in. In her leisure time she enjoyed music, cooking, cross-stitching and square dancing, as well as spending time at the lake and beach house.  

In her later years, Jo became part of the BellSouth Pioneer volunteer group, working with many local charities, including Angel Flight, Eagle Ranch, and the USO. Jo and Gerald also enjoyed traveling the world and especially the European river boat cruises. 

Jo will be deeply missed by those who had the opportunity to get to know her over the years. Her love, laughter, and vibrant spirit will forever be cherished in our hearts. 

A memorial service is scheduled for January 31, 2026, at 11:00am at Shiloh Methodist Church located at 10 Almon Church Road Covington, GA 30014. The family asks that in lieu of flowers that you consider a contribution to Angel Flight Soars Inc.
