Chiemelie David Okonkwo, lovingly known as “Meme,” age 20, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly on January 25, 2026, in Providence, Rhode Island.
Chiemelie was born on April 11, 2005, in Lagos, Nigeria, to his devoted parents, Chinedu and Chikodi Okonkwo. From a young age, he was known for his kind heart, independence, intelligence, and considerate nature-qualities that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
He was a student at Bryant University in Providence, Rhode Island, where he was pursuing a degree in Digital Marketing. Chiemelie was driven and curious, always eager to learn and grow, and he approached his studies with focus and determination.
An avid traveler, Chiemelie had a deep appreciation for the world and its culture. He had the opportunity to travel widely and enjoy experiences that broadened his perspective and fueled his love for adventure.
Athletic and energetic, he enjoyed staying active and participated in basketball, track, and soccer. Music was another passion of his; he was a talented musician who played the guitar and keyboard and shared his gift through singing in his high school choir.
Above all, Chiemelie deeply loved his family and cherished his close relationships. He was surrounded by a large circle of loving family and friends who will forever remember his warmth, generosity, and gentle spirit. He also found joy in food and cooking, especially preparing and enjoying his favorite dish-Chinese fried rice.
Chiemelie’s life, though far too short, was filled with love, purpose, and meaningful connections. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered by his parents, uncles, aunties, cousins, and friends.
